Do You Feel Too Stuck To Move Forward In Life?

  • Have you been feeling intensely sad or hopeless?
  • Are you struggling with a lack of motivation and energy?
  • Some days, does merely getting out of bed and doing basic tasks seem impossible?

When you’re living with depression, even the simplest decisions feel overwhelming. The thought of making any decisions at all makes you want to curl up and sleep the day away. Even the things that you once found exciting may no longer bring you pleasure. For the first time, you might find yourself asking: Do I have depression?

Depression Often Goes Hand In Hand With A Loss Of Social Connections

Because depression takes away your energy and motivation, it makes you more likely to isolate and neglect social events. But the less you do, the worse you feel. Isolation keeps you in an echo chamber with your own negative thoughts, making it easier to spiral down and lose perspective.

The beauty of counseling is that it can help you challenge your negative thoughts by bouncing them off of a compassionate and experienced professional. Here at Green Heart Therapy, our goal is to help you improve your social life, get control of your depression, and feel more like your old self.

Depression Is So Much More Than Being In A Bad Mood

It’s a serious mental health condition that can impact your social, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Depression often causes feelings of sadness, numbness, and hopelessness, but it’s important to remember that it presents differently from person to person.

For instance, young children with depression generally aren’t capable of expressing feelings of hopelessness. Instead, they may act out in school or have frequent crying spells. And depression often looks different in men and women. Men with depression are more likely to suffer from agitation, irritability, or substance abuse. Women, on the other hand, are more likely to struggle with rumination, low self-esteem, and disordered eating.

Trying To Work Through Depression Alone Is Like Trying To Find Your Way Through A Maze

Imagine that you’re in the middle of a gigantic corn maze. You turn one way and you’re stuck, you turn the other and you’re stuck—on and on it goes. Now imagine that you have a drone flying over the corn maze and showing you where to go. That’s what it’s like to have a therapist help you work through depression.

After all, you can’t just think your way out of depression. On your own, you’re limited to your own perspective. Therapy is a chance to reframe your perspective and see the maze of depression from a more balanced and objective viewpoint.

Depression Therapy Is A Chance To Realize That You Are Not Alone

There’s a lot of shame and stigma around depression in our culture. Green Heart Therapy provides a safe space where that stigma can be removed and you can freely express your emotions. We will normalize your struggles with depression so that you realize you’re not alone and give you coping skills for managing its impact on your life.

When it comes to treating depression, we believe that it’s the little things that count. Depression often feels so overwhelming, but taking baby steps toward a healthier life can help you slowly reduce that sense of overwhelm. You will learn to be patient with yourself as you make small changes that add up to create long-lasting transformation.

Our Approach To Depression Treatment

At Green Heart Therapy, we often work from a psychodynamic perspective in treating depression. A psychodynamic approach is all about exploring your personal history and understanding the challenges that led you to where you are today. We can look at grief, trauma, and other past experiences that contributed to the development of depression. After all, everyone’s experience with depression is unique, and that’s why everyone’s treatment needs to be unique, too.

Additionally, our practice often uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients with depression understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behavior. By challenging negative thought patterns (such as “I’m not good enough” or “I’m not worthy of love”), you can improve your behavior and break out of the isolative tendencies that reinforce depression.

For clients looking to learn new emotional-regulation skills, we utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Through mindfulness, breathwork, and other calming strategies, you can learn to both reduce your depression symptoms and tolerate them more effectively.

In the end, it’s important to remember that there is hope that things can change. Other people have been exactly where you are, only to experience healing and transformation through the power of therapeutic support. Our wish is for you to experience the same thing.

You May Have Some Questions And Concerns About Depression Therapy…

Depression impacts your brain chemistry. It can affect your life no matter how resilient or intelligent you are. After all, depression is a medical condition, and it requires treatment just like any other medical condition. Just as you wouldn’t skip seeing a doctor if you had a serious physical ailment, we encourage you to prioritize mental health care. A therapist can give you the skills and strategies to regulate depression so that you can handle it more effectively on your own.

Our job as therapists is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can feel comfortable sharing whatever is on your mind. What’s more, we are very experienced at what we do—there’s virtually nothing that would shock us. Clients often say, “This is embarrassing to admit, and you’ve probably never heard anything like this before,” only to tell us something we’ve heard many times.

It’s normal to feel hopeless when you’ve felt that way for as long as you can remember. Thankfully, the brain has an incredible power to change. Our mission is to help you tap into that power. By carefully reframing your perspective and slowly implementing the right coping skills, you absolutely can loosen the grip that depression has on your life.
