Frequently Asked Questions

Ellie works with a wide range of eating disorders and disordered eating including binge eating, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).

She is trained and certified in Family Based Treatment, which is recommended as the first line of treatment for most children and adolescents diagnosed with anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. When indicated, she will coordinate treatment between your treatment team. She is also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders and can treat adults using this approach. Lastly, she is trained and certified as an Intuitive Eating Counselor, which is a very effective treatment approach for binge eating disorder.

You can learn more about our disordered eating treatment here.

At Green Heart Therapy, we often use Family-Based Treatment (FBT), particularly when working with children and teens who have an eating disorder. FBT is an evidenced based treatment that is proven to be extremely effective at rapidly reversing malnutrition and eating disorder behaviors. FBT does not focus on finding the root cause of an eating disorder. Instead, FBT believes that parents can be their child’s most powerful advocates and best shot at full recovery and we utilize the family unit to help support the child in their recovery journey. Throughout therapy, the therapist will guide the parents/guardians on how to best support their child at mealtimes and beyond, with the hopes of rapidly restoring their child to a complete and full recovery.

We do not accept insurance, but work with many insurance plans as an Out of Network Provider. Upon request, we can provide a superbill, which you can use in order to submit reimbursement from your insurance company. If you qualify, we can also submit superbills on your behalf! If you would like to check your benefits and whether you qualify for reimbursement, please click here or email us for assistance.

We find that not working with insurance panels allows us to provide treatment without confidentiality concerns or the need to share sensitive information with your insurance carrier. This also allows us to offer more flexible and comprehensive treatment options and it enables us to provide individualized treatment without external interference.

We have partnered with Mentaya to help you save money on therapy! You might be able to get reimbursed for out-of-network treatment. You can check here or email us.

Therapy with Ellie is $230 per 50 minute session (Licensed clinician)

Therapy with Hanna is $125 per 50 minute session (Associate)

We require 48 hours notice to cancel a session with no cost. Sessions canceled with less than 48 hours notice will be charged at a full fee. We also charge a full session fee for no-shows. In case of emergency or extenuating circumstances, please speak to your therapist about flexibility around this policy.

The duration of therapy can vary greatly depending on several factors. As a result, it is challenging to provide a specific timeframe for therapy. However, here are some very general guidelines.

  • Treatment goals: The length of therapy can be influenced by the complexity and depth of the issues being addressed. If you have specific, well-defined goals that can be achieved in a relatively short period, therapy may be shorter. On the other hand, if the issues are more deep-seated, complex, or chronic, it may take longer to work through them effectively.
  • Different therapeutic modalities have varying time frames. We do offer some brief therapies, such as solution-focused therapy or cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) which are designed to be more time-limited and focused on specific goals. You can expect to see results in 6-10 sessions with these approaches.
  • Readiness and engagement: Your level of engagement, commitment, and readiness to actively participate in therapy can influence the duration. Being open, honest, and willing to engage in the therapeutic process can help maximize the effectiveness of therapy and potentially lead to more efficient progress. If your therapist gives you homework, being consistent outside of sessions will lead to faster results.

Therapy is a collaborative process and you and your therapist will regularly reassess progress, goals and the need for ongoing treatment.
